More than just a simple tool to perform some edits on your home video files, GiliSoft Video Editor is actually a comprehensive suite of programs that will let you add effects and filters to your videos, cut them, join them, and even remove or change their soundtrack. Its many extra small utilities to adjust the video speed, add subtitles, or create a GIF video file just add value to this suite of tools.
In fact, this is what GiliSoft Video Editor actually is – a suite of tools, a central interface or main menu from where you can open various GiliSoft standalone video-related utilities. The menu itself is truly colorful and eye-catching – this is the first thing you’ll see when you open the program and here is where you go back every time you close any of the programs included in this suite. This has pros and cons – the clearest pro is that you’re given the power of half a dozen programs for the price of one, but to compensate that you will have to see the same functionality repeat again and again in suspiciously “similar” interfaces with just a slightly different name on top. (As an example, the only difference you’ll see when opening “GiliSoft Video Cropper”, “GiliSoft Video Music Editor”, or “GiliSoft Video Effect” is the active tab you’ve been automatically placed in depending on the choice you made in the main menu.) This approach, however, will allow you to go from one tool to the next just by clicking on the corresponding tab, instead of having to close the program, go back to the initial window, and open a different-but-very-similar tool again.
The functionality itself deserves more consideration, though. GiliSoft has been around for a while and knows a bit about video and audio editing, and what they’re offering you here is a toolbox that will most probably solve most of your video-related needs. All of the edits you can perform here have been designed to be as much user-friendly as possible, using sliders and tabs, and adding a preview window wherever possible or required. The cutting tools, both Advanced and Easy, are certainly easy to use and precise at the same time. Also, retouching your videos or adding creative effects to them are equally simple and rewarding.
Whatever your video editing needs are, I think it’s wise to give GiliSoft Video Editor suite a try before buying several individual (and more limited) video tools. As soon as you get used to its interface peculiarities, you’ll see why the program is worth its license fee.
